Welcome! My name is Laura Young and I am the Technician/Educator for the SWCD. We are committed to providing educational programs about water, soil, and related environmental topics - FREE of charge, for all age groups. If you have a class, organization, 4-H club, Scout group, church group, daycare or summer camp, please contact me to schedule a presentation on a topic of your choice!

For NLCS and Mitchell Community Schools, program scheduling for the 2008-2009
school year will begin the week of August 18th, 2008. Brochures will be distributed
at the start of the school year - bookmark this website for more updates, as well!

The SWCD can also be contacted for help with projects, such as developing an outdoor lab for your school, tree plantings, composting, and worm farms. We have a Rain Simulator that can be used for presentations  (please provide water source) and many other reference materials (books, brochures, activity templates, conservation practice guidelines, topographical maps, Soils maps, Aerial maps, Watershed maps, displays, audiovisual materials).

Laura Young's Bio:

Thank you for visiting the SWCD education site - I am eager to share my enthusiasm and knowledge about the environment with you and your group!

I am a local girl (from Williams) - I graduated from BNL in 2002 and went on to acquire a B.A. in Biology from Franklin College. I started at the SWCD this past December, so I am still learning! I have special interest in cave/karst/groundwater studies and am passionate about educating the community on responsible conservation practices that will keep our water clean and our soil on the land, where it is most beneficial.
